Scrumpy Cider
Scrumpy is what the English call apple wine. Made in the same way as grape wine.
The apple juice is fermented and matured using natural yeasts for at least 8 months.
Traditionally served direct from the barrel, often cloudy with a touch of the “vinegar mother”, and a little foam
The French would call it Cidre Tranquille, or Cidre Plat. The Germans know it as Apfelwein. It has many names across Europe.
We lightly sparge our Scrumpy to deliver that slight barrel poured foam, and deliver a little brightness and tingle on the tongue.
